Cold vulcanization of conveyor belts

Today, the general cold connection of conveyor belts is possible only using special materials.

This method allows a very quick and efficient repair of the conveyor. It is advantageous because it is not necessary to dismantle the rubber, special expensive equipment is not required, and the conditions for performing the procedure can be difficult to access. This docking of conveyor belts is carried out using special one- and two-component adhesives.

Features of cold vulcanization

Using this method, it is possible to connect rubber-fabric articles with a width of up to 1.6 meters. It takes 3-6 hours to repair, and you can start the conveyor 3 hours after the docking process. After you have successfully carried out the docking of conveyor belts, the repaired equipment can be operated at a temperature of -45 ° C to +80 ° C.

For carrying out the repair procedure it is necessary to use:

  • one- or two-component glue;
  • band, imposed on the gaps of rubber at the joints;
  • special cleaning agent.

For 1 square meter of conveyor, approximately 3 kg of glue should be used for successful bonding work. Such a calculation is taken for five-layered sheets with a width of 100 cm.

Qualitative cold vulcanization of conveyor belts is performed with the help of hand and grinding tools, which fit into a bag of small size. Tools can be quickly delivered manually to the repair site. This assures the saving of energy resources and money costs for machinery. Using specialized equipment and technologies allows you to reduce the cost of repairs and reduce the downtime of the conveyor. To optimize the work, it is possible to use special docking bags for conveyor belts with a width of 0.9-2.0 m.

In order to ensure a cold vulcanization of the conveyor belt, it is necessary to store materials for repair in a temperature range of 16-17 ° C in a dry, dark room. Before carrying out repairs, the rubber band should be cleaned and dried with a heat fan.

The advantage of using cold vulcanization

  1. When docking  the conveyor belt by the means of cold vulcanization, the average loss of time for repairs and production downtime is reduced by half.
  2. The cost of one joint costs 2 times lower than when using hot docking, since the use of expensive equipment is excluded.
  3. To carry out repairs on the operating conveyor, it is sufficient to deliver tools and glue composition to the site.
  4. Dismantling process of the conveyor is excluded.
  5. The joints obtained are reliable and work up to the complete deterioration of the conveyor belt.

Disadvantages  of docking of this type

  • To conduct the necessary operations, the air temperature should not fall below 10 degrees Celsius.
  • Additional exposure of the conveyor belt at zero air temperature from 3 to 24 hours (depending on the scale of bonding).
  • Required relative tidiness of the surrounding while using this method of connection.
